Tommy is originally from High Point, North Carolina. He grew up in a beautiful home, with both parents, and six other siblings. Tommy was the third oldest of seven kids in his family.
At the age of 22 years old, Tommy was working in the textile industry. He began working at Burlington Industries and moved on to work at Unify and Mcmichael mills. Tommy worked in textile for 23 years and enjoyed every minute of it. He calls it the time he was making "Good money," compared to the 5 dollars he makes a day now.
Tommy didn't become homeless until the age of 50. His wife of eight years began cheating on him with her ex, the father of her firstborn, who had just recently passed from leukemia. Tommy feels that the passing of her son brought her and her ex-husband, much closer than it should have. The cheating hurt him so badly that they both called for a divorce, and she took everything Tommy had. His mobile home and his new car.
After we shared Tommy's story, the community did the rest. Tommy and his family pictured here, reconnecting after 15 years of absents.
